Industries worldwide face growing challenges in waste management, water shortage, and plastic cleaning. Smicon, a leader in innovative food waste recycling solutions, presents the Smicon Screw press – a highly efficient machine designed for controlled dewatering and separation of industrial, organic, and agricultural liquid process streams, waste flows, and residual materials.

After washing plastics, a significant amount of moisture remains trapped. Traditionally, centrifuges or thermal drying methods are used to remove this moisture, but these techniques are often energy-intensive and costly. Smicon offers three models (SP280, SP300 and SP600) which can mechanically squeeze the water out of plastics. This process significantly reduces energy consumption compared to conventional drying methods, making it a cost-effective and eco-friendly alternative.

A multi-purpose solution – Key features

The Smicon Screw press is specifically engineered to provide industries with a more effective way to separate liquids from solids, lowering waste disposal costs and improving resource recovery. This machine is particularly beneficial for businesses dealing with high-moisture waste streams or requiring plastic decontamination for re-using purposes.

  • Removes excess moisture from packaging and organic waste streams, reducing weight and volume. It also helps remove food residues and liquids from packaging, making plastic more suitable for recycling.
  • The Smicon Screw press is designed with a low noise level, low energy consumption, and easy maintenance for continuous and cost-effective operation. The back pressure operates on air, ensuring a consistent pressure on the product at all times. This results in a reliable and stable process. The back pressure in the press chamber can be fine-tuned with great precision, ensuring that both the dry fraction and the liquid effluent meet the desired quality.

Innovative technology for maximum efficiency

The Smicon Screw press uses an internal screw and filter system to separate liquids from solids efficiently. The filtered liquid (effluent) exits through the screw press, while the dry material—often stackable—leaves the press chamber in a controlled manner. Unlike conventional systems, the Smicon Screw press operates effectively even with very low dry matter content in the influent stream, ensuring no pressure buildup on the filter.

"With our expertise in waste processing technology, we have developed a machine that not only improves waste management efficiency but also contributes to sustainability goals," says Joep Ehren, International Sales Manager at Smicon. "The Smicon Screw press is designed for maximum flexibility, allowing industries to adjust output quality while reducing operational costs. We decide together with the customer which model fits their needs best."

Developed and manufactured in-house

Smicon designs, engineers, and constructs the SP280, SP300 and SP600 screw presses entirely in-house, ensuring the highest standards in quality and performance. These machines can be fully customized with client-specific feeding and discharge systems, as well as integrated control systems, making them adaptable to a wide range of industrial applications.

Invest in smarter waste management today

Smicon machines excel in robustness and relative simplicity, making the machine easy to maintain. Through ongoing development, the machine shows relatively low wear and tear (pressing occurs outside the filter).

Product streams: plastic waste streams, paper waste streams, digestate, manure (cattle and pigs), brewer's grain, waste streams from food producers such as potatoes and jam, slaughterhouse waste, sludge from water treatment plants.

Looking for a cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable solution for waste dewatering? The Smicon Screw press is the answer.
