Depackaging installation Spain

Year: 2024

Location: Madrid, Spain

Type of product flow: Unpacked residual flow from households

Project type: Depackaging

Description
The organic fraction is the waste most produced and recycled in the city. Of the total waste (1.4 million tons), 36.4% consists of organic waste and pruning residues. The Madrid city council has decided to set up a separate collection of this residual flow. The construction of a new compost facility started in 2023. The organic residual flows from households are collected by the municipality and processed for use as high-quality compost.

The product is collected in a storage bunker which can also be completely sealed with a hydraulic lid. Then it is transported to the depackaging machine. The SMIMO120 depackaging machine is capable of processing various types of (un)packaged organic products and food waste from households. Depending on the requirements of the output product, this process can be personalized by using different sieves and post-treating the organic or plastic packaging stream. The machine is suitable for separating both dry and wet product and achieves a clean organic flow of at least 99.5% depending on the input. It is possible to add liquid through the main shaft and the input housing to influence the composition and processing of the product, and it can also serve as pre-cleaning. The SMIMO120 in the stainless steel version makes the machine less sensitive to products with a high acidity, which contributes to a longer lifespan.
