Packed & unpacked foodstreams

Processing packaged foods is a form of recycling that is applied to residual products from supermarkets and the catering industry, or to residual products, rejected products or surpluses from the food industry. The packaged products to be processed include all products from liquid foods in tetra packaging, to packaged vegetables in plastic to foods in glass or metal (tins and the like) packaging.

Unpackaged organic residual products come from restaurants, supermarkets, the food industry or arable farming, among other things. Examples of organic products that are processed by our customers in the recycling industry are: potatoes, steam peels, vegetables from vegetable cutting companies, bakery and restaurant waste.

This diversity in the food industry brings with it challenges, such as:

  • Efficient separation of packaging and contents: From products in plastic and from tins to glass jars, the diversity of packaging makes processing complex.
  • Environmentally friendly processing: Companies want to contribute to a circular economy by returning residual flows to animal feed or biogas, but often lack the right knowledge and technology.

SOLUTION FROM SMICON

Smicon offers systems that process both packaged and unpackaged food products. Our technology makes it possible to efficiently separate packaging from the content. This ensures a higher yield of organic product, lower disposal costs of residual waste and that organic residual flows are optimally prepared for reuse in animal feed and the biogas industry. This helps companies to reduce their ecological impact and get more value from their waste.
